A year ago, the Connecticut Huskies were not playing in the NCAA Tournament – not because they didn’t win enough games, but because they were banned from postseason play due to low APR scores in years prior. UConn’s players were forced to miss out on the big dance despite nobody on the roster contributing to the low mark. Well, it looks like they haven’t exactly forgotten about that little fact. Shabazz Napier made it clear to the Arlington crowd tonight that he and the rest of his teammates fed off of the NCAA’s decision. He called his team “hungry Huskies” and told the crowd “this is what happens when you ban us”.
Meanwhile, NCAA president Mark Emmert was just a few feet away during his speech.
As Jim Nantz mentions, Napier bookended his career with national titles. He and his “hungry Huskies” will go down as one of the most surprising NCAA champions of all-time.
