Former Oregon quarterback Joey Harrington starred for the Ducks back in the early 2000s, and after a rather unsuccessful career in the NFL, returned to the college game to do both radio and color for the school’s network and Fox Sports. Bottom line – he knows a lot about college football. But somehow, he seems to be a little confused on one of the biggest stories in the history of the sport.
Harrington, who is calling the Baylor vs. SMU game on Fox Sports 1 Sunday night, is a little off on the status of the Mustangs’ program.
Did Joey Harrington really say SMU came off the death penalty “a few years ago”? I guess 1987 qualifies as “a few”

Joey Harrington: “Coming off the death penalty a few years ago …” Umm. The death penalty was over before all these SMU kids were born.

Sure, you could make the argument that SMU still hasn’t “recovered” from the penalty, but I’m not really sure that’s what Harrington was going for.
