Boston College has officially hired its new athletic director.
Ohio State Deputy AD Martin Jarmond has been named the new William V. Campbell Director of Athletics at Boston College, it was announced today.
Jarmond will replace Brad Bates, who has served as AD since October 2012. He will be formally introduced in a press conference on Monday.
Prior to his work at Ohio State, Jarmond also worked in the athletic department at Michigan State.
“I am delighted that Martin Jarmond will be the next athletics director at Boston College,” said Fr. Leahy. “His work as deputy director of athletics at Ohio State and at Michigan State have given him not only appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of intercollegiate athletics, but also experience in how to respond effectively to them. He is a person with high energy, infectious enthusiasm, and an impressive ability to engage with people and issues.”

On paper, this looks like a pretty strong hire for BC. Jarmond has experience working in two large, successful athletic departments and is young and up-and-coming. Boston College needs someone who can be forward-thinking as the school continues to adapt itself to the landscape of modern collegiate athletics.
Jarmond was also a Division I athlete in his own right, having been a two-time captain of the basketball team at UNC Wilmington.
