The Clemson-South Carolina rivalry is an especially fun one to watch as an objective observer. There are better on-field college football rivalries… actually, this one probably isn’t even in contention at the moment considering the Gamecocks’ recent domination. Off the field, however? Few fanbases, coaches, and players send barbs at each other like those at Clemson and USC.
For the first time in a while, Clemson will be known for its defense, and has the highest profile defensive end in the rivalry in Vic Beasley. Beasley was very active at the ACC Kickoff today, but took some time to take a shot at South Carolina, specifically the Gamecocks defense, when asked about how he will deal with double teams like Jadeveon Clowney did last year.

Now that’s appealing to the fanbase. Clemson will need Beasley to have a more productive season than Clowney did last year, but even he is not likely to get the attention from opposing schemes that the NFL’s first pick did in 2013.
