Grayson Allen is back on the court for Duke tonight.
Duke ended Grayson Allen’s “indefinite” suspension for tripping after just one game and a lot of people aren’t happy with Coach K’s decision.
When you dig a little further into the situation for the Blue Devils, though, it makes some sense.
Tonight’s game against Georgia Tech will be the last one for Coach K for a month or longer. He will undergo back surgery that will sideline him for quite a bit.
So, by ending Allen’s suspension tonight, Coach K gets one final look at his complete team and allows the scrutiny of the un-suspended decision to fall on him and not interim coach Jeff Capel.
ESPN’s Jeff Goodman pointed this out as a possible reason.
This was easy way for Coach K to do it: Get a look at entire team before he steps away, and also not have Jeff Capel have to deal with scrutiny.
A lot of people are upset with the decision – rightfully so, perhaps – but this does make sense.
