Tonight are the ESPY Awards, ESPN’s annual awards show honoring the best in sports over the last year. One of the cool things at this year’s awards is that the College Football Playoff national championship trophy, which was unveiled on Monday, is at the show. Before the show, three players from the defending national champions — Florida State’s quarterback Jameis Winston, cornerback P.J. Williams and wide receiver Rashad Greene — got to check out the hardware.
As you can guess, getting the chance to check out the trophy motivated Winston and Williams, with Winston apologizing, because they “cuffed” the trophy.
Florida State will begin its campaign to defend its title on August 30, when the ‘Noles will take on Oklahoma State in Arlington, Texas.
