The Orange sophomore is leaving school.
Syracuse’s men’s basketball program has lost a four-star sophomore.
Taurean Thompson, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound big man, has taken a “leave of absence” from school.
Jim Boeheim released the following statement.
“We have been informed that Taurean is taking a leave of absence from Syracuse University,” Boeheim said. “My understanding is he wants to go to school closer to home due to some family health issues.”
Thompson averaged 16.9 minutes a game for the Orange during the 2016-17 season, averaging 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. He was expected to be a major contributor to Syracuse’s 2017-18 team.
The 6-foot-10 big man was ranked the No. 11 center in the country coming out of high school.
