Head coach Scott Shafer and his Syracuse Orange made more noise in the blogosphere than they did on the field today. Shafer, who admitted afterward that he needs to learn to control his emotions better, screamed some choice words at the Clemson sideline after the Tigers were stuffed on a fourth-down play late in the first half. Shafer was apparently upset that Clemson, which already led 35-7, was trying to run up the score.
At his post-game press conference, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney had an interesting response to the situation. Via Tigernet.com:
Shafer clearly expected Swinney to opt for a field goal instead of “taking a knee”, but it’s a pretty funny quote regardless. For what it’s worth, Syracuse played much better in the second half, so maybe Shafer’s outburst amped up his players.
