Virginia Tech Star Chris Clarke Tweets That He’s Cleared To Play After February Torn ACL

One of the top players in the ACC—Virginia Tech wing Chris Clarke—could be back in action less than a year after tearing his ACL.

Clarke went down with the injury during the Hokies’ February 12 win over rival Virginia.

He had been cleared to play limited minutes during the Virginia Tech’s charity exhibition win over South Carolina, and he contributed five points, four rebounds and three assists in the game. However, when asked, head coach Buzz Williams wouldn’t commit to playing Clarke during the season, according to The Roanoke Times.

However, now it sounds like Clarke will be suiting up for the Hokies this season. This evening, he tweeted that he has been cleared.

For what its worth, beat writer Mark Berman reports that Clarke has not been “fully cleared” yet.

It is unclear if that means that Clarke will be on a minute restriction to start the season, or will miss some games early in the year. Still, it is a very good sign for the Hokies.

Clarke is Virginia Tech’s leading returning scorer, averaging 11.4 points last season. He also led the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game. Earlier today, SB Nation ranked him the No. 85 player in college basketball ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Virginia Tech hosts Detroit Mercy on Friday to open the regular season.
