Yesterday we brought you pictures from the Wake Forest quad after the announcement that unpopular basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik had been fired by the school. Some Wake students celebrated the decision by “rolling” the quad, a tradition generally reserved for big victories by the Demon Deacon teams.
Today, Wake Forest’s President Nathan O. Hatch sent a message to the University community, stating how he was upset by the event:
Civility is a hallmark of our community, and I am disappointed that yesterday’s misplaced passion did not accurately portray our values to the country. Dozens of people came out this afternoon to clean the Quad and for that I am grateful.
Hatch also cited a tweet by Deacon Sophomore forward Aaron Rountree III, who was also upset by the reaction:
“Rolling The Quad” should be reserved for glorifying the success of Wake Forest University, not for the disrespect of another HUMAN BEING.

This was a statement that probably had to be made, but most Wake fans probably don’t blame those who are relieved to be going in a new direction.
