Here’s an update on the Jayhawks-adidas FBI situation.
The University Daily Kansan reported late Wednesday night that the FBI confirmed it had documents pertaining to Kansas’ relationship with adidas.
The FBI said it could not release the documents because they’re part of an ongoing investigation. What that means for Kansas is unclear.
Kansas, though, responded to the story today, saying it still hasn’t been contacted by the FBI.
Associate athletic director Jim Marchiony reiterated Wednesday that KU Athletics has not had any contact with the FBI.
His statement came after the Kansan reported that its Freedom of Information Act request sent to the FBI requesting any KU documents related to a potential FBI investigation was rejected. The response letter stated, “The material you requested is located in an investigative file which is exempt from disclosure … ”
Kansas and adidas announced a massive new deal earlier this year, but the Jayhawks have since said they might reconsider it after the bribery scandals that hit college basketball.
