Kansas looks to win the Big 12 for a 14th consecutive season, but one of the league’s top head coaches, West Virginia’s Bob Huggins, thinks Oklahoma basketball is better right now.
With 13 straight conference titles and another very talented roster, Kansas was the unanimous pick by the Big 12 coaches to win the league in the preseason. Oklahoma basketball was picked to finish sixth by the league’s coaches.
Today, however, Bob Huggins thinks the Sooners are the league’s best team, at least for the moment.
“I mean if I had to revote, I’d pick Oklahoma right now.”
“I would say right now, Oklahoma is the best team in the league,” Huggins said. “They’ve got a great coach in Lon Kruger. They’ve got the best player, probably, in the country surrounded by a whole bunch of veteran guys. … They are loaded inside. They do a great job with their post guys.”
Oklahoma, 10-1, is currently No. 12 in the country, and is currently battling undefeated No. 10 TCU in its Big 12 opener. Superstar freshman guard Trae Young, who has to be the favorite to win national player of the year right now, has been spectacular for OU, leading the team to huge wins over ranked USC and Wichita State teams already this season.
