Many college football players insist that they don’t care about the accolades that often come along with being star athletes. While being honored for stellar play is always nice, it’s secondary to team goals and not something that players tend to focus on — at least that they’ll admit.
Texas Longhorns offensive tackle Donald Hawkins takes postseason awards very seriously, however. Today, the Big 12 All-League honors were announced, and Hawkins found himself on the second team. Simply put, he felt that he was slighted and took to Twitter to vent about it (tweet has since been deleted):
The Big 12 coaches vote for the awards, which is why Hawkins apparently deems the conference a joke. It’s also interesting to note that Hawkins didn’t make any of the All-Big 12 teams last year, so his sudden outrage at only being named to the second team seems a little bit ridiculous.
