The ‘circle drill’ may be one of the simplest, yet important, football practice regiments in any coach’s arsenal. The sheer physicality of the drill, which basically just pits two players against each other in a battle for positioning, brings out the competitive spirit in all participants. Tuesday night, Texas released some footage of the Longhorns running the drill during spring practice. It certainly looks like new coach Charlie Strong is certainly toughening up his young roster.
Strong, who took over for Mack Brown, is trying to turn around a program that finished just 8-5 last season, suffering bad losses to Baylor and Oregon to end the campaign. It looks like they’re off to a good start.
