The New York Jets made life interesting when they selected former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the No. 39 overall pick Friday evening.
The Jets have six quarterbacks currently and the word going around is that Mark Sanchez may be given the boot in a matter of days.
While some experts feel that Smith may not be a franchise quarterback, New York’s head coach Rex Ryan thinks differently.
“I hope he’s right,” he said following the pick. “You know what? That speaks about the kind of competitor he is and the kind of teammate he is.”
Here’s a video of Smith getting selected after a very difficult 24 hours:
Here’s Smith’s comments following his momentous day:
The WVU quarterback is excited and ready for what’s ahead:
I left it in Gods hands! Proud Jet! J E T S !!!!

Another Mountaineer, wide receiver Stedman Bailey, was selected in the third round Friday night. Bailey will be joining his teammate Tavon Austin with the St. Louis Rams next season.
WRs Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey were partners in crime, terrorizing secondaries together at #WVU. Nice to see them stay together in STL.
