West Virginia has sneakily gotten itself back in tournament discussions with some huge Big 12 wins, and today it landed the biggest of all—a 92-86 upset of conference champion Kansas at home.
WVU pulled off the win against Kansas despite a virtuoso performance by star Jayhawks freshman Andrew Wiggins, who scored 41 points on just 18 shots, keeping the team in the game during the absence of center Joel Embiid.
The win was West Virginia’s first over Kansas since joining the Big 12 in 2012.
Mountaineer fans stormed the court after the upset victory. As you may have guessed, a rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” was involved.
