Where: They will open play against NC State in the first round in Dayton. Winner gets Saint Louis in Orlando.
Why: Xavier finished win a 10-8 record in the Big East, good enough for a 3-way tie for third place with Providence and St. John’s. The Musketeers scored notable victories over Tennessee, Cincinnati, St. John’s (twice) and Creighton.
Ceiling: Xavier received one of the final bids into the NCAA Tournament. The Musketeers’ most impressive victory came over then-No. 9 Creighton back in early March, but since, they’ve lost three of four games. An NCAA Tournament victory would be a surprise.
