Coming off of an embarrassing loss to Ohio State last week, Penn State needed a big rebound win to regain some confidence. The Nittany Lions got in a slugfest with the Fighting Illini this afternoon, and after 60 minutes of play, neither team had found a way to separate itself from the other. However, Penn State took charge right away in overtime, as young Christian Hackenberg found Kyle Carter open in the endzone for what would end up as the game-winning touchdown.
The Nittany Lions received the ball first in overtime, so Illinois still had a chance to go for the tie or the win. Unfortunately for the Fighting Illini, Nathan Scheelhaase threw an interception on his very first pass in OT — here’s the impressive pick by PSU’s Ryan Keiser:
Penn State is now 5-3 on the season, while Illinois drops to 3-5.
