The Maryland men’s basketball program’s incoming freshman class is one of their most important in recent memory.
Mark Turgeon’s teams have missed the NCAA Tournament in each of his three seasons in College Park, Md. Five players–Seth Allen, Shaquille Cleare, Nick Faust, Charles Mitchell, Roddy Peters–transferred out of the program following the 2013-14 campaign. The upcoming season very well may determine Turgeon’s fate as the Terrapins’ coach.
For Maryland to be successful in 2014-15, the freshman fivesome, led by McDonald’s All-American Melo Trimble, will need to live up to expectations. Those five players–Trimble, Jared Nickens, Michal Cekovsky, Trayvon Reed, Dion Wiley–have already begun to form a bond. They’ll be getting matching tattoos.

Maryland’s 2014 class was ranked No. 12 in the country by 247Sports.com. Trimble was the highest rated recruit of the group as a top-30 point guard. The other players: Wiley (4-star SG), Reed (4-star C), Nickens (4-star SG) and Cekovsky (4-star PF).
