Maryland recently moved from the ACC to the Big Ten, marking a new era for the university. While it’s an exciting move for the university, as evidenced by the fact that its football coaching staff works in their “Think B1G” sunglasses, few people are more excited than Terrapins football coach Randy Edsall. Not because of more exposure or anything like that, but because by his estimation, the school is moving from a basketball conference in the ACC to a football conference in the Big Ten.
These are curious statements from Edsall, as the reigning national champions in college football are from the ACC, while the Big Ten has not lost college basketball’s ACC-Big Ten challenge since 2008. The Big Ten also had three teams in the top 10 of college basketball’s final USA Today Coaches Poll last year compared to the ACC’s one, while the ACC had two top-10 football teams compared to the Big Ten’s one.
Regardless, Edsall should probably try to do better the 6-18 conference record he compiled in the ACC now that he’s in the Big Ten.
