Back in early April, a young Michigan State fan named Lacey Holsworth tragically lost her battle with cancer. Holsworth’s death had a great impact on a number of Spartans, including Adreian Payne, as well as many others in and around the sport of college basketball. In fact, ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale, who has worked with the Jimmy V Foundation for years, vowed to raise a significant amount of money for pediatric cancer research in her honor.
Vitale’s goal was to raise $250,000 – a lofty number – by the time of his annual gala, set to take place tonight in Sarasota. Early in the week, Vitale announced that he’d reached $175,000. But after what must have been a great last-minute push, it appears he’s made good on his promise. Vitale updated his followers today, hours before the event, claiming that the entire $250,000 was raised.
Say what you want about Vitale’s over-the-top announcing style. He’s one of the most stand-up guys in the industry. Well done, Dickie V.
