Well, this won’t go over well in Ann Arbor.
Jacksonville State head football coach John Grass held his first press conference of the season today, and unsurprisingly, he answered questions about the team’s week one opponent: defending Big Ten and Rose Bowl champions Michigan State. While discussing the Spartans, Grass praised the team for being the best squad in the Big Ten, and made a statement that we’re sure Michigan fans won’t enjoy. Grass called the Spartans, “the team in Michigan now,” which is a stark difference from being the Wolverines’ “little brother,” which is what former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson called them on Saturday.
“When you think Big Ten in past you may’ve thought OSU or Michigan. Now MSU is who you think. They are the team in Michigan now.” Grass

This may just be a way that Grass tries to pump up his team and praise an opponent, but that’s a big thing to claim. While Michigan State is a program on the rise, and is the odds-on favorite to win the Big Ten this year, it does not have the rich history and prestige of its in-state rivals. Regardless, this is a heated rivalry, and we can’t wait to see what happens on Oct. 25, when Michigan and Michigan State play in East Lansing.
