Just over one year ago, college basketball fans around the country learned of a special bond between Michigan State center Adreian Payne and an incredibly brave cancer fighter named Lacey Holsworth, who was 7-years-old at the time. Since, we’ve seen the duo attend Dick Vitale’s charity gala, cut down the nets after the Big Ten Tournament title and even participate in the college slam dunk contest – together.
Wednesday morning, it was announced that Holsworth, who suffered from neuroblastoma, had passed away from the illness. Her family posted a heartbreaking message to her Instagram account, along with the below photo.
Michigan State’s players have taken to social media to pay their respects.

Lacey passed away at just eight years of age. We too would like to extend our prayers to her friends and family.
