It seems as if every offseason, Tom Izzo is rumored to be a potential candidate for a head coaching position in the NBA. The Michigan State coach, who has been in East Lansing, Mich. since 1995, did not shut down the possibility of leaving for an NBA position following this season.
It’s the college basketball offseason, so, naturally, Izzo is being rumored as a potential candidate for an NBA head coach position. Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman is retiring, and Izzo is reported to be a possible replacement.
Timberwolves coaching job is officially now open. Two names that will be in the mix, per sources, are Tom Izzo and Fred Hoiberg.

Flip Saunders is tight with Tom Izzo and Fred Hoiberg. I’d bet one of them is at the very least offered the Timberwolves job.

Following this season, in which Michigan State fell to Connecticut in the Elite Eight, Izzo expressed sentiments that made it seem like him leaving for the NBA is possible.
“I don’t necessarily want to go,” Izzo said. “My name comes up. I’ve been called more than you know.”
