The former Ohio State star had a very nice debut with Minnesota on Monday.
Pat Elflein started for the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.
The former Ohio State standout, a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, became the first rookie to start at center for the franchise in 55 years.
Elflein might not have been a Viking if it wasn’t for the daughters of a couple of former Ohio State stars.
The former Buckeye is dating Emily Lachey, the daughter of former NFL All-Pro and OSU star Jim Lachey. At Ohio State, Emily roomed with the daughter of another former Buckeye star, Chris Spielman.
Spielman’s brother, Rick, is the Vikings’ GM. He asked his brother about Elflein before the NFL Draft and was relayed information from the daughter.
When Spielman asked his brother about Elflein’s character, he relayed what he had heard from Maddie.
“My daughter is the same age (23) as Pat and she says he’s a great kid,” Chris Spielman, a two-time All-American at Ohio State, told twincities.com. “She speaks very highly of him. I just know that if my daughter says he’s a great guy, then he’s a great guy.”
ESPN mentioned the story on their broadcast.
