Well, this is embarrassing — Rutgers just can’t seem to get anything right at the moment. In the past week, the university has been under intense scrutiny because the athletic director who was hired in the wake of the Tim Pernetti resignation was formerly accused of abusing volleyball players and was also involved in a sexual discrimination lawsuit. Giving a person a second chance is one thing, but Rutgers is attempting to wipe the slate clean following the Mike Rice scandal.
Safe to say, the school isn’t off to a great start.
The worst part about the foolish hiring of Julie Hermann is that the school wasn’t just negligent. No, according to the Asbury Park Press, Rutgers actually paid to have a background check done on Hermann. The cost? A whopping $70,000.
Now, universities spending obscene amounts of money is nothing new, but to spend $70,000 on a background check, furthermore one that misses all of the major red flags, is really embarrassing. All I can say is that I hope Rutgers saved the receipt.
Is it too early to kick Rutgers out of the Big Ten? This is just embarrassing now. $70,000 must have bought some “background check”
