College football’s opening night produced a couple of instant classics. The best finish of all required fans to stay up way past their bedtimes.
Fresno State and Rutgers scored a total of 103 points last night, but it was a defensive play that decided the contest. With the game tied in overtime at 45-45, Fresno State QB Derek Carr threw his fifth touchdown pass of the night to give the Bulldogs the lead, 52-45. Rutgers quickly responded with a touchdown of its own, and head coach Kyle Flood decided to take a chance and go for the win on the road. Unfortunately, his bold move didn’t pay off.
