Here’s the most-overrated team in college football, according to ESPN’s computer.
ESPN’s Football Power Index rankings updated earlier this week. The new rankings include projected win-loss records, conference champion predictions, odds of going undefeated and more.
We’ve gone through the updated FPI rankings and compared them to ESPN’s latest way-too-early preseason top 25 rankings.
Which team is the most-overrated, according to the FPI rankings?
A team out of the Big 12 – Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys, a team some consider to be a Big 12 champion contender and a possible College Football Playoff darkhorse, are not looked upon fondly by the FPI.
While Oklahoma State is ranked No. 10 in the way-too-early top 25, the Cowboys are all the way down at No. 26 in the FPI. That’s a difference of 16 spots, by far the highest of any team inside the top 15.
The FPI predicts Oklahoma State will finish with a record of 7.7-4.5 and gives the Cowboys just a 4.2 percent chance to win the Big 12.
