Here’s the one SEC team that could really challenge the Crimson Tide this year.
Alabama will be challenged this year by Auburn.
That’s what former Crimson Tide quarterback and current SEC Network Greg McElroy thinks, anyway.
McElroy believes that the Tigers will “pose a test” for Nick Saban’s team, which has dominated the SEC – and, specifically, SEC West – in recent seasons.
The former Alabama standout believes that the addition of former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham is huge for Gus Malzahn’s team. McElroy says that Stidham, a former top recruit, is the best quarterback the program has had since Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.
“Stidham is the best QB Malzahn has had since Cam … Auburn will pose a test to Alabama this year,” McElroy says.

ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Alabama a 46.6 percent chance to win the SEC, while giving Auburn a 19.8 percent chance. No SEC teams have better statistical chances of winning the league than those two squads, according to the FPI.
