Herbie thinks the Gators should go after this coach.
Florida moved on from head coach Jim McElwain just a few days ago, but the GameDay crew is already speculating on who the next coach will be.
Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard both agreed on the choice.
Both College GameDay analysts said the university should go after UCF coach Scott Frost, who has the Knights as the No. 18 team in the country.
Here’s what Herbie had to say via 247Sports.
“You’re not just hiring a coach, they haven’t been very good since (Tim Tebow) left,” Herbstreit said. “You’ve got to find the coach with the personality that’s going to bring the confidence back to the program and by the way, while you’re here, we need 45 a game. They want to score. They don’t want to win the old-fashioned away. Chip Kelly’s name should be brought up with any college job that opens up, but to me, Scott Frost has got an edge to him.
What he has done as a head coach in two years at UCF … he’s got a chip on his shoulder. He has a little bit of chippiness to him and when you’re in that seat, you have to be able to handle that. Blogs, chat rooms and negatively.”
Frost has completely turned around the Knights, who were a winless team before he got there. Another name that popped up was, not surprisingly, Chip Kelly.
I’m with David (Pollack), Chip Kelly and Scott Frost both (would be ideal). Chip Kelly’s name should be brought up with any college job that opens up, but to me, Scott Frost has got an edge to him.
We’re sure both coaches will get a call for the gig, but will either one want to compete with Nick Saban, and take on the challenge of turning the once-storied program around?
