Lane Kiffin had an interesting quote about Nick Saban on Tuesday while talking about his demeanor as head coach.
Lane Kiffin and Nick Saban had an interesting relationship during Kiffin’s stint in Tuscaloosa as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. The relationship consisted mostly of Kiffin getting yelled at over and over again, often in front of the entire team. Now, with Kiffin taking the head coaching job at FAU, he has an opportunity to instill his own strategy of dealing with assistant coaches, and it appears like he won’t be taking Saban’s approach.
Kiffin went on SiriusXM College Sports Nation on Tuesday and and was asked if he plans to “blow up” on assistants in the same way that was done to him by Saban.
“No, that’s not really how I do it. Greg (McElroy) knows about those,” Kiffin said, laughing. “Those things come up, and everybody has different ways of dealing with them. It’s just not really how I do it. I’m not really big on humiliating assistant coaches in front of everybody. I write down notes. In the staff meeting, I explain what we want to get done.”
Safe to say Kiffin is a little more laid back than Saban.
