He passed away at age 76.
Former college and NFL head coach Ron Meyer passed away at the age of 76.
Meyer started his collegiate coaching career at UNLV where he racked up a 27-8 record before leaving to join SMU. While with the Mustangs, Meyer won just three games in his opening season (1976), but led the team to a 10-1 season in 1981.
Colts owner Jim Irsay and the SMU football team posted tributes to the former coach.
Rest in peace, Ron Meyer, our colorful head coach from '86-'91.

Meyer left the college coaching ranks for the NFL in 1982 when he took over the New England Patriots. In nine NFL season with the Patriots and Colts, Meyer finished his career with a 54-50 record and two playoff appearances.
Our thoughts are with the Meyer family at this time.
