Head coach Jim McElwain said he considered benching the sophomore quarterback when Del Rio struggled against Arkansas last weekend. Del Rio completed 19-of-37 passing for 229 yards and two interceptions. The Gators offensive woes continued against the Razorbacks, as Florida put up just 10 points.
The Gators are No. 91 (out of 128 teams) in terms of offensive yards per game and scores just 27 points per game despite playing a very generous schedule thus far.
Backup quarterback Austin Appleby will have to battle for the starting role despite filling in for Del Rio earlier this season when the sophomore quarterback went down with a knee injury.
