The Heisman Trophy is given to the nation’s best college football player according to his play on the field, but there is always a certain amount of politicking that goes on in the race. It is especially important for small schools that want to get their stars on the map. Marshall is starting early on quarterback Rakeem Cato’s Heisman campaign, and have launched a website all about his accolades, Catoin14.com.

The website is pretty impressive, and very comprehensive. It features pages that outline Cato’s career stats and individual numbers from every game, headlines he’s garnered, his personal and school records, highlight videos, his “team first” attitude, and even his special relationship with receiver Tommy Shuler. Basically, if there is something you need to know about Rakeem Cato, the quarterback or the person, it is on this site.
Cato has an uphill battle to fight to reach New York, with favorites like Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and Braxton Miller in his way. However, if he has a huge season, becoming a finalist would not be unprecedented. Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch made it to the ceremony after putting together a fantastic season in DeKalb in 2013. Cato’s Thundering Herd is getting buzz as a team that can go undefeated this year, and people love rooting for an underdog. While winning a Heisman would be remarkable, Cato should have a shot to at least get his name in the mix this year.
