New Mexico vs. UTSA preview:
After a shaky 2-3 start to the season, the Lobos won six of their last seven to finish the season 8-4 and first in the Mountain West. The key to success? Running the football. New Mexico ranks first in the nation with a surreal 361 yards on the ground per game. It’s enough to make up for a suspect defense and a messy quarterback situation where time is usually split.
UTSA has been up and down all season, but finished strong with a 33-14 win over Charlotte to make themselves bowl eligible. The Roadrunner have their work cut out for them against the Lobos, but they don’t turn the ball over and the defense can hold its own. They’re underdogs, certainly, but they’ll have plenty of opportunities to score against a revolving-door defense.
New Mexico vs. UTSA prediction:
New Mexico caps off their phenomenal season with a bowl win. It just doesn’t seem likely that the Roadrunners will be able to stop the Lobos’ potent rushing attack. The Roadrunners will stay close all game, but New Mexico will control the clock and make a couple key stops in the fourth quarter. In what will essentially be a home game for the Lobos, they get it done.
