The Longhorns reportedly have interest in the QB transfer.
Texas was involved in the pursuit of LSU graduate transfer quarterback Brandon Harris. The Longhorns didn’t land him; he committed to North Carolina.
Tom Herman’s program is reportedly now getting involved in the pursuit of another graduate transfer quarterback.
According to Horns Digest, Texas has expressed interest in former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire.
The Longhorns’ quarterback competition would get really interesting with the addition of Zaire, who dominated Texas in the 2015 season opener. He completed 19-of-22 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns in a blowout, 38-3 victory.
Zaire later went down with an ankle injury, DeShone Kizer took over and, despite a brief starting stint to open the 2016 season, ended up losing his job for good.
Texas’ open quarterback competition currently includes last year’s starter, Shane Buechele, and true freshman Sam Ehlinger, a top recruit in the 2017 class.
