It went about how you’d expect, with a couple surprises.
The 2017 SEC Media Days finished up Thursday afternoon, and this morning, the SEC released the media voting from the conference polling. To no one’s surprise, Alabama was the overwhelming favorite to win the SEC this upcoming season, with Auburn coming in a not-very-close second with just 11 votes.
So Alabama dominating the polling was expected, more or less, but what is rather bizarre about the voting results is that three media members actually chose Arkansas, Vanderbilt or South Carolina to win the SEC this season.
The chances of any of those schools winning the SEC this year is a combined 1 percent, according to ESPN’s FPI.
2017 SEC Champion Picks
And here are the results by division. Once again Alabama is a heavy favorite in the SEC West:
The SEC East is a little closer in terms of competition (because there’s no Alabama), with Georgia just squeaking by Florida in points:
|South Carolina (5)||897|
So all predictions point toward an Alabama – Georgia SEC championship game, with Alabama bringing home its fourth straight title. Not a bold prediction, but if history is any indication, it’s probably the correct one.
