The nation’s No. 1 recruit in the class of 2018 announced his commitment.
Trevor Lawrence, product of Cartersville, GA, announced his commitment to Clemson.
According to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, Lawrence is the No. 1 recruit in the nation, regardless of position. He’s the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2018 and the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia.
Hunter Johnson, the No. 2 quarterback of the 2017 class is already committed to Clemson as well. This should make for a very interesting quarterback competition, and gives the Tigers a wealth of options.
If Deshaun Watson leaves Clemson for the NFL, it looks like the Tigers shouldn’t suffer much of a letdown from the quarterback position.
Ranking 17 New Head Coaching Hires
16. Shawn Elliott – Georgia State
Last Stop: South Carolina offensive line coach
Head Coaching Record: 1-5
Elliott had the incredibly difficult job of stepping in mid-year for Steve Spurrier, after the legendary coach resigned midway through the 2015 season. He managed to beat Vanderbilt, but that was his only victory as the interim Gamecocks coach. The team was competitive down the stretch in pretty much every game, but couldn’t get over the hump, aside from the game with the Commodores—his first as interim head coach.
Elliott stayed on under new head coach Will Muschamp, but his young offensive line was one of the team’s major issues. According to Football Study Hall, the team ranked 110th in “adjusted line yards per carry,” and a 115th in adjusted sack rate.
