Here’s the latest on the Jalen Hurts situation at Alabama.
It’s been about a month since the 2017 college football season ended with Tua Tagovailoa replacing Jalen Hurts and leading Alabama to the national title. Here’s an update on where things stand with the Crimson Tide quarterback situation.
Hurts has been pretty mum about the situation. There have been transfer rumors surrounding Alabama’s rising junior quarterback, but nothing definite.
Nick Saban said something interesting on National Signing Day, though. Alabama’s head coach said that the Crimson Tide would likely add another player to the QB room prior to the start of summer camp.
AL.com is now reporting that Alabama is interested in adding a graduate transfer quarterback. The report states that the Crimson Tide are in pursuit of East Carolina quarterback Gardner Minshew.
Minshew, a Mississippi native, withdrew from school in Jan. 30 to tend to a family matter. He started five games for ECU last season.
Does this mean that Hurts is on his way out at Alabama? Who knows. Quarterback depth is always necessary at the college level.
However, it won’t be surprising at all if Hurts loses the starting QB battle this spring and then opts to transfer somewhere else. If that happens, landing a graduate transfer quarterback to add to the depth chart would be very important.
We likely won’t learn anything certain about Alabama’s quarterback situation until spring ball. Stay tuned.
