The top recruit will not be playing for the Cardinals.
Brian Bowen officially won’t be playing for Louisville.
The Cardinals announced in a statement this morning that the five-star freshman “will not play at the University of Louisville.” He is allowed to remain on campus and be on scholarship, but is free to pursue other opportunities.
Bowen, the No. 19 recruit in the 2017 class, is alleged to have committed to Louisville after receiving money from adidas. The bribery scandal is what led to the ousting of Rick Pitino.

It’s unclear if Bowen would be eligible to play at another school if that’s what he decides to do.
The 6-foot-7 small forward chose Louisville over Creighton, DePaul, Michigan State and Oregon, among other programs.
Louisville, 3-0, is ranked No. 19 in the latest top 25.
