Branch plans to appeal, and the suspension will not begin until his appeal has been heard. The second-round pick from the 2007 NFL draft is expected to play this weekend against the New York Jets.
The 10th-year pro out of Michigan has 33 tackles on the season, with one sack and one forced fumble. His stats this season almost match his total from last season when he totaled 35 tackles and one sack.
Branch joined the Patriots in the middle of the 2014 season after being released by the Buffalo Bills in August of 2014. The Bills cut Branch after the defensive tackle was arrested on a DUI charge.
Branch has started 24 of the Patriots 26 games dating back to last season.
