The BYU football program may be in a state of flux given its status as an independent right now, but that doesn’t mean the school is going to stop celebrating its tradition on the gridiron. Monday night, the BYU Cougars Twitter handle sent out a very cryptic tweet that read that there is “something cool coming” this July 1st. The #BYU50 hashtag might be a clue that it has to do with LaVell Edwards Stadium, which opened up 50 years ago this season.

BYU plays USU on Friday, October 3rd this year in Provo. That is 50 years plus 1 day from the date LES (nee Cougar Stadium) opened. #BYU50

It remains to be seen what the surprise will be – but we can probably guess that it’s not a new conference affiliation. If it were, head coach Bronco Mendenhall would be very excited.
