A few months ago, former Notre Dame quarterback Gunnier Kiel made a decision to leave the university and transfer to Cincinnati, where he’d have a much better chance at playing time during his collegiate career. That decision was made largely due to the fact that Everett Golson, the Irish’ starter this past season, was just a freshman. Kiel could have been stuck as a backup for years, something he obviously wasn’t comfortable doing.
“I’m a Bearcat.”
Kiel actually would have been able to return to Notre Dame and not sit out a year – as John Infante points out. But if Kiel’s not interested, that doesn’t matter.
Due to transfer rules, Kiel will have to sit out the 2013-2014 season at Cincinnati. He will be eligible to play the following year.
