In college sports, there are some fan bases that just feel snakebitten at all times. They don’t root for programs with no hope – they are usually the supporters of schools with stature and resources, who just can’t seem to get over the hump and deliver that magical season. Earlier this week, FOX Sports writer Chris Chase put together a list of the 18 most “miserable” fan bases in sports. He ranked the top three in college football – along with the top three in college basketball. He did the same for the NFL, the NBA, the NHL and Major League Baseball – but we aren’t concerned with the pros here.
For college football, Chase ranked Boise State as the third-most miserable, Nebraska as second and Georgia first. Why? He thinks that the Broncos’ time has passed, the Cornhuskers routinely underperform for the program they are, and Georgia has never been able to put it all together and win the SEC when it matters.
3. Boise State
For college basketball, Chase thinks Missouri, Notre Dame and Wake Forest – in that order – are the most miserable fan bases. Why? The Demon Deacons, since being ranked No. 1 in the AP in 2009, have compiled a terrible record. Notre Dame has only reached one Final Four despite having a solid program. And Missouri, between the NCAA violations and the lack of a true rivalry (since Kansas won’t play the Tigers) has been tortured since leaving for the SEC.

College sports fans – does Chase have it right? Or are there other programs out there that are, in fact, more miserable?
