Notre Dame sophomore tight end Alize Jones will not play for the Fighting Irish this season because of academics.
Jones, a four-star recruit in the 2015 class, will still be permitted to practice and remains on the team’s roster.

Jones also released a statement on Twitter, saying he will “be back stronger.”

Jones, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end, was the No. 1 TE in the 2015 class.
Notre Dame opens its season Sunday, Sept. 4 against Texas.
