Rick, will you ever learn? Enough is enough.
After unsuccessfully picking against Notre Dame time and time again, ESPN columnist Rick Reilly is trying desperately to reestablish his reputation as a credible, insightful, and interesting sports reporter. It started with him shining the gold helmets after Notre Dame’s win over USC; many think that he did so just for the publicity. This, however, took it too far.
Reilly tweeted a photo of himself, along with Adam Schefter and Seth Markman, at dinner in New Orleans, the site of this year’s Super Bowl. The photo shows Reilly smiling to the camera with his arm around his imaginary friend, “Lennay Kekua,” a clear attempt to mock Manti Te’o and the hoax surrounding the Notre Dame linebacker.
Even worse? This isn’t even original; “Te’o-ing” has been around for weeks now, so the joke is over. Clearly, this is just another feeble attempt by Reilly to make his followers forget how extraordinarily wrong he was when he claimed Notre Dame football to be irrelevant back in August.
