Eric Atkins, the starting point guard for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, knew that his team couldn’t take another ACC loss. Notre Dame was off to a very lackluster 2-6 start in the ACC and facing another one at home to Boston College, but the senior captain just refused to quit making plays. First, he managed to get fouled in the last second of regulation when the Irish trailed by one. He sank the first free throw, but missed the second and a shot at the buzzer for the win off of the rebound:
…but he wouldn’t be denied in overtime — Notre Dame and Boston College were tied with 35 seconds left to play, and Atkins milked the clock for the final shot. After crossing over on the left wing, he pulled up for a three that found the bottom of the net:
Atkins finished the game with 24 points, three assists, and three rebounds. The Irish are certainly happy to get a much-needed win but can’t celebrate too much — they have a quick turnaround as they play currently undefeated Syracuse on Monday at the Carrier Dome.
