The Charlotte 49ers have just won the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament by knocking off No. 14 Michigan. It is the second Sunday in a row on which the Wolverines have suffered defeat, as they lost to Iowa State in Ames last weekend.
On Charlotte’s final possession of the game, tied 61-61, Terrence Williams found himself underneath the hoop with just seconds left, and quickly fired up a short shot for the win. Unfortunately, he was way strong on the attempt, but he managed to come up with the offensive rebound and put it back up and in as time expired. The refs eventually reviewed the clock and added four-tenths of a second back on, but Michigan’s desperation heave failed.
To win the tournament, the 49ers racked up three wins in a four day span, defeating Kansas State, Northeastern, and then Michigan.
