Exhale, Michigan fans. The Wolverines have survived a ferocious upset bid from the Akron Zips, 28-24, at the Big House in Ann Arbor. After Akron took a 24-21 lead on a 1-yard touchdown completion from Kyle Pohl to Tyrell Goodman with just over four minutes to play, Devin Gardner led the Wolverines down the field in four plays to give Michigan the advantage, 28-24. The game-winning touchdown was scored on a 2-yard run by running back Fitzgerald Toussaint.
Akron, with a chance to win the game on its final drive, drove all the way down to the 2-yard line in the game’s final seconds. A goal line stand by Michigan preserved the victory – here’s the last play:
