The Pittsburgh Penguins, who find themselves in first place in the Metropolitan Division, hosted the Ottawa Senators tonight at the Consol Energy Center in what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller.
Two goals were scored in the first period before the game turned into a defensive battle between two of the league’s better goalies; Pittsburgh’s Marc-Andre Fleury and Ottawa’s Craig Anderson. The game went to overtime tied at 1-1 and saw right winger James Neal put in the game-winner in the back of the net for the Penguins less than two minutes into the extra period.
But the game almost never saw overtime as Fleury robbed young defensive superstar Erik Karlsson of a potential game-winning goal with 10:33 left in the third period. Fleury’s near impossible, leg-splitting reach of the glove sent Karlsson down to the ice in disbelief. Check out this amazing flash of the glove yourself, via NHL.com:
